There doesn’t seem to be any stopping Andy Murray at the moment. The Scotsman was made to slog by the indefatigable Frenchman Gilles Simon on Thursday at the Erste Open in Vienna, but the World No. 2 continued his torrid string of results by notching a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Simon.

Watch: Murray Shows Major Class in Vienna

Murray’s victory is his 12th in a row, and he claims his 16th win in 18 matches with Simon.

The 29-year-old has an outside chance at claiming the No. 1 ranking before this year’s World Tour Finals, and he can help his cause greatly by continuing his progress in Vienna.

If Murray wins Vienna and Paris back-to-back, he would claim the top ranking if Djokovic did not reach the semifinals in Paris. It’s a long shot, to be sure, but the way that Murray keeps surviving has certainly been impressive.

He had his run of 20 consecutive sets won snapped by Martin Klizan on Wednesday, and today he fell behind Simon by a set but was able to rally despite not playing his cleanest tennis. Murray broke six times on nine opportunities in the final two sets to earn his 67th win of the season against just nine losses.

On Friday Murray will square off with American John Isner in the quarterfinals.

Hometown favorite Dominic Thiem was not so lucky on Thursday at Vienna. He tossed in a poor performance and was knocked off by Viktor Troicki, 6-2, 7-5.

No.3-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Albert Ramos-Vinolas also reached the quarterfinals with wins on Thursday.

Tsonga kept alive his slim hopes of making the ATP World Tour Finals with a 7-6(6), 6-2 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The Frenchman is currently over 700 points Tomas Berdych for the final London bid, but could pick up 410 points with a title in Vienna. Tsonga will face Ramos-Vinolas in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
