The 31st-ranked Spaniard served 74 percent and did not face a break point in the 59-minute victory.

Ramos-Vinolas reached his first semifinal since he beat compatriot Fernando Verdasco to win the Bastad title in July. Ramos-Vinolas had lost in the first or second round in his last six tournaments before Chengdu.

The fifth-seeded Ramos-Vinolas will meet Grigor Dimitrov for a spot in the final. The 21st-ranked Dimitrov has won both of their prior meetings, which were both contested on clay.

The third-seeded Dimitrov fought back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Diego Schwartzman.

The match was a rematch of the Istanbul final where Dimitrov suffered a major meltdown, smashing every racket in his bag in a three-set defeat to Schwartzman.

World No. 101 Karen Khachanov continued his strong performance. The 20-year-old from Moscow hammered 10 aces and did not face a break point upsetting fourth-seeded Feliciano Lopez, 6-3, 6-4, in 73 minutes.

Khachanov, who has played primarily at the Challenger level this season, scored his third Top 30 win of the season. He previously upset No. 17 Roberto Bautista Agut in Barcelona and beat 23rd-ranked Philipp Kohlschreiber in Kiztbuhel.

Khachanov will take on Viktor Troicki for a spot in the final. The sixth-seeded Serbian hit 12 aces in a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory over Kevin Anderson.
