Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny is the winningest player in the history of the St. Petersburg Open and he played like that on Thursday as he snapped a personal 10-match losing streak against the Top 10 to knock off second-seeded Milos Raonic, 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-4.

The victory marks the 34-year-old Youzhny’s first Top 10 win since August of 2014.

Things took a turn late in the second set with Raonic leading 6-2, 6-5 and serving for the match. Youzhny rallied and broke with a forehand winner to level, then the Russian rallied again from 1-5 down in the tiebreaker to force a decider.

Youzhny won four consecutive points against the Raonic serve, converting his second set point with a smoked forehand return that handcuffed Raonic and forced a backhand into the net.

Youzhny saved all ten break points he faced in the final set, including five in the final game after breaking Raonic for a 5-4 lead. He clinched the victory, his 17th of the season and first against Raonic in three meetings, in two hours and 34 minutes.

Youzhny will face Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. The 19-year-old German, seeded fifth, defeated Daniil Medvedev, 6-3, 7-5.

Making his return from appendicitis, Tomas Berdych edged Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(4). Berdych improves to 32-15 on the season but the 31-year-old is still searching for his first title.

No. 7-seeded Viktor Troicki, No. 8-seeded Joao Sousa and Paolo Lorenzi were also winners on Thursday in St. Petersburg.

Berdych will face Paolo Lorenzi in the quarterfinals, while Troicki will face top-seeded Stan Wawrinka. Sousa will face No. 4-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut.
