Victoria Azarenka recently talked to Tennis Channel about her pregnancy and her time away from tennis.

Off-Season Training: Federer and Pouille in Dubai

The two-time major champion says that while she misses the sport, she’s happy to experience a different part of the human experience. She says she hasn’t played in about a month and a half, and that she’s enjoying the “luxury” of sleeping in her own bed night after night.

“What I’m about to go through is a special connection,” she said, of her impending motherhood. Azarenka announced her pregnancy in July, and says she is eager to return to tennis after becoming a mother, but is not planning to rush and isn’t on any timetable to do so.

“My pregnancy’s been completely different experience from anything I’ve done before. You know obviously in theory you know the process but to actually go through that you truly start to deeply understand the magic of it and it’s quite a ride, I have to say.”

“Tennis is my career but there’s a different part of life,” she said. “This is a different part of life. This was a blessing. A gift from god.”

Azarenka says she misses the fans and the competition, but she's the type of person that can find passion in any sphere.

"I miss the fans. I miss that moment when you go on the court and it's a go time. As a competitor, I have to find that edge in life. I've been able to translate that into my studies for now, but that competitive edge is definitely something I'm missing."

She added: “I believe that I still have a great opportunity to do what I love as long as I love playing tennis, and I do—this is an opportunity for me to realize how much I love what I do.”
