It’s the second clay-court championship of the season for Bertens, who triumphed at the Nürnberger Versicherungscup in May. Bertens collected her fourth career singles championship.

Bertens burst out to a 3-0 lead, eventually serving out the opening set at love.

Contesting her third final of the season, the third-seeded Kontaveit came back strong. Kontaveit reeled off eight of the last nine points played on her serve in the second set to force the decider.

Bertens fended off break point in the third game of the final set, then blasted through a love break in the fourth game.

The 35th-ranked Dutchwoman, who hit six aces on the day, won the final give games to seal the victory.

Bertens returned to the court partnering Johanna Larsson to a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-7 triumph over Viktorija Golubic and Nina Stojanovic.
