Roger Federer was broken in his first service game on Thursday at Wimbledon, but the seven-time Wimbledon champion regained his footing quickly to roll past Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic, 7-6(0), 6-3, 6-2 to reach the third round.

Federer blanked Lajovic in a first-set tiebreaker, then notched a critical break for 3-1 in the second set when Lajovic botched an easy overhead. Federer did not face a break point in the second and third sets and broke Lajovic's serve three times on nine opportunities, including twice in a lopsided final set that allowed Federer to close affairs in a crisp 90 minutes.

Federer admitted that he inexplicably faced some nerves before the match but added that he was pleased to respond after what he deemed to be a sluggish start.

“I think I just struggled early on,” he told reporters during his press conference. “I was feeling nerves for some reason. Not sure why. But, you know, I was able to come back in the set breaking at 2-Love. I think it was big for me.”

Federer seemed to be carrying a cold after the match, and suffering from the sniffles.

If it slowed him down during the match it was not nearly enough to keep him from reaching the third round at Wimbledon for the 15th time. He’ll face Germany’s Mischa Zverev on Saturday for a spot in the manic Monday lineup.

“I think the courts were playing quite fast today because of the heat,” Federer said. “Then I played a great breaker. I think from then on I never looked back. Got early breaks in sets 2 and 3 and was able to protect my serve in a good way. Never really found ways to get into my service games on first and second serves.”

Federer improved to 86-11 at SW19 with his victory—the Swiss is the all-time men’s singles win leader at Wimbledon. Federer is 4-0 lifetime against Zverev and he was won all nine sets that the pair have played.
