Anastasija Sevastova claimed her first title in over seven years on Sunday, defeating Julia Goerges, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, at the Mallorca Open.

Sevastova, who was a runner-up at the inaugural Mallorca Open last season, won for the first time in four career matches against the 28-year-old Goerges.

The 27-year-old Sevastova left tennis for a year and a half in 2013, but eventually returned to the sport in 2015, saying she missed the big stages. In an interview at last year's U.S. Open she told Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times that the time off helped her gain perspective about the fact that there is life after tennis. Tennis is fun again for her, and it shows in her results.

From outside the top 800 in early 2015, to just outside the Top 100 in early 2016, Sevastova is projected to climb to a career-high ranking of around 13 on Monday with her title.

Sevastova and Goerges traded breaks early and often, with the pair splitting the first two sets. It was Sevastova claimed the extra break in the decider, and she was able to serve the final out to clinch the victory in two hours and 14 minutes.
