Pablo Cuevas defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas to complete the Sao Paulo three-peat on Monday afternoon.

Brasili Open

Pablo Cuevas is the king of Sao Paulo. The Uruguayan became the first player in Brasil Open history to win the tournament three times in succession when he defeated Albert Ramos-Vinolas, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-4, in a match that was delayed over 24 hours due to incessant rain.

The pair stopped on Sunday with Ramos-Vinolas leading 7-6(3), 3-3, deuce. Cuevas broke immediately upon resumption and went on to take the second set.

Cuevas broke three times in the final two sets in total and saved all three break points he faced in the decider to defeat Ramos-Vinolas for the fourth time in five career matches.

He finished the match by converting his fourth match point with an unorthodox underhand second-serve. Ramos-Vinolas made the return and the pair engaged in a long rally before the Spaniard hit his final backhand long, sending Cuevas to his knees with his arms raised.

Cuevas claims his sixth career title with the triumph. They have all come on clay and they have all come since 2014. Ramos-Vinolas falls to 1-3 in ATP finals with the loss.
