Two of the meanest servers in the history of the game were outfoxed by a pair of young guns on Monday in Miami as 21-year-old Nick Kyrgios and 20-year-old Alexander Zverev both battled through third-set tiebreakers to advance into the round of 16.

Zverev saved three match points to squeak past John Isner, 6-7(5), 7-6(7), 7-6(5) in two hours and 38 minutes. The 20-year-old improve to 2-0 lifetime against Isner by putting forth an inspired effort. He saved a match point in the second-set tiebreaker and another two in the third set before rallying back from 4-1 mini-break down in the third set tiebreaker.

Zverev won six of the final seven points to set a round of 16 clash with Stan Wawrinka. Zverev stunned Wawrinka in last year’s St. Petersburg final, snapping the Swiss’ 10-match winning streak in ATP finals.

Wawrinka moved decisively past Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri, 6-3, 6-4, to book his first career appearance in the round of 16 at Miami in his ninth career appearance. Jaziri drops to 0-10 lifetime against the ATP’s Top 10 with the loss.

Zverev has also reached the round of 16 in Miami for the first time in his career.

Over on Grandstand another tall tree was being felled by a young gun as Kyrgios battled past Ivo Karlovic, 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-6(2). The 21-year-old Aussie could not convert on any of his seven break points in the second set but he kept his focus and saved the only break point he faced in the third set before rolling past Karlovic in the deciding tiebreaker to improve to 3-0 against the 38-year-old.

Kyrgios will face David Goffin in the round of 16. The No.8-seeded Belgian needed three sets to dispatch Diego Schwartzman, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Goffin and Kyrgios were both semifinalists at Miami last year. The Belgian improves to 17-6 on the season with his win.
