The Argentinean has now won 20 of 24 matches since the start of the 2017 U.S. Open and his 7-5, 6-4 win over the Dutchman sets up a quarterfinal with American John Isner.

Isner kept his slim London hopes alive with a 7-6(10), 5-7, 6-3 victory over Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian had a match point with Isner serving at 2-5 in the decider and served for the match at 3-5 but could not hold off the 32-year-old American. Isner can qualify for London, but only if he wins the title in Paris. He was a runner-up last year.

Elsewhere on Day 4 in Paris, David Goffin was knocked off by Julien Benneteau, 6-3, 6-3. The Frenchman is playing in his last Paris Masters and reached the quarterfinals at Bercy for the first time and for the first time at a Masters 1000 since 2014.

Goffin’s London hopes are in jeopardy but he will qualify unless Pouille defeats Del Potro in the final.

Fernando Verdasco defeated Dominic Thiem, 6-4, 6-4, and Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic knocked off Nicolas Mahut, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Mahut was attempting to reach his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal in his 46th appearance; Krajinovic, a qualifier, reached the last eight for the first time.
