Shenzhen Open finalists will try to make the third time the charm.

Alexandr Dolgopolov defeated Damir Dzumhur, 6-3, 6-4, snapping the St. Petersburg champion’s eight-match winning streak and storming into his third final of the season.

The 53rd-ranked Ukrainian will face David Goffin in tomorrow’s final.

The second-seeded Belgian beat back a stiff challenge from Henri Laaksonen, 7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-3, advancing to his third final of 2017.

Goffin broke to open the final set then broke again in the last game to close a gritty two hour, 16-minute victory.

“I'm feeling a little tired. I've never played him before but he's a tough fighter,” Goffin told ATP World Tour.com. “It was a tough battle, especially in the second set. I'm happy with the way I started the third set but it was a fight until the end.

“I've won three matches already in Shenzhen. I'm going to rest tonight to be ready for tomorrow."

Dolgopolov won his lone prior meeting with Goffin in straight sets at the 2013 US Open.

Dzumhur upset fourth-ranked Alexander Zverev in yesterday’s quarterfinals.

The fifth-seeded Dolgopolov set the tone on serve in today’s semifinals. Dolgopolov drilled eight aces, won 31 of 35 first-serve points and denied all three break points he faced in a 72-minute victory.

Dolgopolov has dropped just one set reaching his first hard-court final since falling to David Ferrer in the 2012 Valencia final. Dolgopolov is bidding for his first title on hard court since he beat James Blake, Sam Querrey and Tommy Haas in succession to win Washington, DC five years ago.

“I'll try to play more aggressive maybe,” Dolgopolov said. “David is for sure a solid player. It's nice to see him back on this level,” Dolgopolov said. “I'll just go and fight.”

The 12th-ranked Goffin is playing for his third career title and first since he won the 2014 Metz championship. Goffin is 2-6 lifetime in ATP finals.
