Andre Agassi and Grigor Dimitrov will be together at the Australian Open.

The American legend and eight-time major winner, who began working with Dimitrov in October, will travel to Melbourne to accompany the World No.19, along with Dimitrov’s longtime coach Dani Vallverdu.

Dimitrov told the Brisbane Courier Mail that he was not sure if Agassi would travel to begin the season at Brisbane with him.

Agassi is not likely to commit to a full schedule with Dimitrov. He’ll likely attend the bigger events and leave the day-to-day responsibilities with Vallverdu, who has coached him since July 2016. The arrangement seems to be preferable for all parties.

Dimitrov spent several weeks in Las Vegas working with Agassi during the off-season after joining forces with the American in October prior to this year’s Rolex Paris Masters.

“Andre has been amazing—a big supporter,’’ Dimitrov told the paper. “We’ve started to get to know each other a little more and to spend back-to-back weeks together was very helpful. We haven’t decided on an exact number of weeks. We are a work in progress and trying to find what works best for him and us as a team. We respect each other’s time."

Dimitrov suffered a letdown in 2018 after having a major breakthrough in 2017, when he won the ATP World Tour Finals and finished the year at a career-high ranking of No.3 in the world.

In 2018 he struggled to a 24-19 record and dropped to 19 in the world without winning a single title. The Bulgarian went 49-19 in 2017, while winning four titles.

“It was a very strange year with a lot of ups and downs,” Dimitrov said. “I am always focusing on what I can do better for years down the line.”
