Stefanos Tsitsipas has broken new ground for Greece by reaching the round of 16. The 19-year-old, who defeated Thomas Fabbiano 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 on Day 5, becomes the first player from his country to reach the second week of a major in the Open Era.

“It's an amazing feeling, and I feel very proud that I represent Greece and that all of my hard work has paid off,” he told reporters on Friday. “I feel extremely proud that I can be the first Greek in the open era, as you said, in the fourth round of a Grand Slam.”

Tsitsipas had never earned a main draw win at Wimbledon before. He will face American John Isner for a spot in the quarterfinals on Monday.

“There is so much satisfaction,” the No.31 seed said. “There is so much—it's just such nice feelings to be the first from your country to do so, so, yeah, it's amazing.”
