Serena Williams owns a home in Paris, but won't be seeded at Roland Garros.

The French Tennis Federation announced the former world No. 1 won't be seeded at Roland Garros, which starts on Sunday.

"This year, again tournament officials will establish the list and ranking of women's sseeds based on the WTA ranking," the French Tennis Federation said. "Consequently, seeds will reflect this week's world ranking."

That means Williams, whose ranking has dropped to No. 453 due to maternity leave she took following the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia, on September 1st, won't be seeded.

The three-time French Open champion will use her protected ranking for main-draw entry.

Williams has not played a Tour-level match since losing to Indian Wells champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets in her Miami opener in March.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has won 13 of her last 14 French Open matches.

Williams has been practicing on Roland Garros' red clay with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who says she's committed to her French Open return.

The 36-year-old American has not played a French Open match since falling to GarbiƱe Muguruza in the 2016 Roland Garros final.

Though she won't be seeded in Paris, Serena is likely to be seeded at Wimbledon next month.

The grass-court Grand Slam said it reserves the right to revise its seedings based on a player's past performance on grass. Williams is a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion.

"The seeding order follows the WTA ranking list, except where in the opinion of the committee, a change is necessary to produce a balanced draw," Wimbledon organizers said in a statement.
