The Serb is 25-1 since the beginning of Wimbledon and can reclaim the No.2 ranking for the first time in over a year if he advances to the Shanghai final or if Federer does not win the title.

Number of finals that Roger Federer has played in 2018. The Swiss, who has won three titles, will bid to reach his seventh final of 2018 when he faces Borna Coric on Saturday in Shanghai. Federer defeated Kei Nishikori on Friday to book a spot in his 63rd career Masters 1000 final. He is third on the all-time Masters 1000 title list with 27 (Nadal has 33 and Djokovic has 31).

According to Alex Macpherson of the WTA, Bacsinszky would be the fourth WTA finalist ranked beneath No.200 this year following Mandy Minella in Gstaad, Anastasia Potapova at the Moscow River Cup, Jessica Pegula in Québec City and Margarita Gasparyan in Tashkent.
