Gael Monfils will bid to become the third consecutive French winner at the European Open on Sunday. The Frenchman knocked off Diego Schwartzman, 6-3, 6-4, to set a final clash with Kyle Edmund and he’ll attempt to win multiple titles in the same season for the first time.

Monfils pitched in ten aces and saved two of three break points to reach his 28th career final and third of 2018. The Frenchman, who fell to Schwartzman at this year’s Rio Open, improves to 2-1 lifetime against the World No.17.

Monfils will meet Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund in the final.

The top-seed defeated 2016 European Open champion Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-4 to reach his second final of 2018. Edmund, ranked 15, is bidding for his first career ATP title.

He owns a 0-1 lifetime record against Monfils.

Edmund saved all five break points he faced early in the first set and broke Gasquet once in each set. The Frenchman saved multiple break points in consecutive games to stay within a break in the second set but Edmund served the match out to 15 in the tenth game to book his place in the final.
