Simon's wife, Carine, and two sons, Valentin and Timothee, were on hand to see him collect his 14th career title, including his second this year.

Three of those distinctive title trophies Simon owns have come in Metz, where he previously reigned in 2010 and 2013. Simon is the 10th Frenchman to lift the title trophy in 16 editions of the Moselle Open that will propel him back into the Top 30 when the new ATP rankinges are released tomorrow.

“I have a good feeling here, I also have the family coming. So it's a very nice feeling to come back every year,” said Simon, projected to rise to No. 29.

It's the first time in seven years Simon won two titles in the same season.

The world No. 39 opened the year defeating Marin Cilic and Kevin Anderson in succession to win Pune.

The 166th-ranked Bachinger arrived in Metz with one Tour-level win on the season but toppled top-seeded Kei Nishikori in yesterday's semifinal to reach his first ATP final. Bachinger had triple set point on Simon's serve at 5-6, but the slender Frenchman fired back and the German never really recovered from that lost opportunity.

“Today, I was definitely a bit tired and of course, I am a bit disappointed I couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities I had in the first set,” said Bachinger, who is projected to rise to No. 135. “I need to be positive, this has been an incredible week for me. If I would have been told that I would reach the final when I arrived here to play the qualies, I wouldn’t have believed it.”
