Keeping up with the game of tennis, by the numbers. Each day at Tennis Now we’ll give you a fresh set—without any further ado, here’s what the numbers say after Day 10 of the 2018 U.S. Open.

Players from Japan that have reached the U.S. Open semifinals. Kei Nishikori and Naomi Osaka both came through on Day 10, marking the first time in history that two players from Japan have made the last four at a major.

Madison Keys record at the majors since the the beginning of last year’s U.S. Open. The American has now made three major semifinals out of her last five after defeating Carla Suarez Navarro on Wednesday.

Kei Nishikori’s record in five-setters. Japan’s No.1 defeated Marin Cilic, 2-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals on Day 10.

The last time a Japanese woman reached the semifinals of a major (Kimiko Date, Wimbledon). Naomi Osaka will bid to become the first women’s singles Grand Slam finalist from Japan in history when she meets Madison Keys in the semifinals on Thursday.

Novak Djokovic has now reached the semifinals at the U.S. Open in his last 11 appearances. The Serb defeated John Millman to set a clash with Kei Nishikori on Friday.

Difference between number of career titles that Serena Williams has earned and the number of career titles shared by the other four women’s singles semifinalists, combined. Williams owns 72 titles and 23 at the majors. The other three women own 7 and zero at the majors.


2009

The last time a U.S. Open semifinal had a lower combined age than that of Naomi Osaka v Madison Keys. It was a battle of 19-year-olds in New York, with Caroline Wozniacki defeating Yanina Wickmayer to reach her first major final. Osaka is the youngest semifinalist since Wozniacki in 2012 at the U.S. Open
