The news that Sloane Stephens and Kamau Murray will work together once again at this year’s US Open was just that for Puerto Rico’s Monica Puig.

Word is that the former Olympic Gold Medalist found out about the fact that her coach was now working with Stephens when the American posted the news on Twitter early Wednesday.

She found out that Murray would not be joining her in New York late last week and that news also caught her off guard.

"At the end of last week, Kamau informed me that he would not be available to go to the US Open with me, which was a total surprise to me," Puig said in written statements, according to ElNuevodia.com (translated into English by Tennis Now). "I have put it behind me, and I am fully focused on preparing my best for the US Open."

Puig's agent, Marijn Bal, reported that Serbian Dusan Vemic will coach Puig in New York.

Bal also said that Murray's decision to work with Stephens came as a surprise to Puig and her camp.

"It was a total shock to us," Bal told ElNuevoDia.

Puig began working with Murray in late January of this season. She reportedly moved her training base to Chicago to train closely with her coach.
