20-year-old Ugo Humbert notched the biggest win of his career on Thursday at the Open 13 Provence as he took out No.2-seeded Borna Coric 6-3 6-3 in 80 minutes. The French wild card saved both break points he faced against the Croatian to earn his fourth career ATP win and third of the season.

“The atmosphere was great, and it's always easier when you aren’t the favourite,” he said according to ATPWorldTour.com. “This was the first time I played a player ranked that high. I was able to stay calm and played well.”

Humbert, ranked a career-high 75 this week, was quick out of the blocks much to the delight of the local fans. The Metz native broke with a put-away volley for 3-1 and saved a break point in the next game, punctuating with a smash at the net to kill off the game.

Humbert saved another break point while serving for the set at 5-3 with an ace down the T. He earned two consecutive free points on serve from there to close the set.

Humbert, lanky and left, uses his wide serve well in the ad court, and while he plays a measured, composed game from the baseline, he does not hesitate to approach the net and employ some very good touch to end points.

A pair of booming forehands into Coric’s backhand corner helped Humbert to a break for 2-1 in the second set and the young Frenchman did not look back. He won all fourteen of his first-serve points in the second set and did not face a break point the rest of the way.

He broke again in the ninth game to close the match, when Coric sailed an unforced error well wide down the line.

The bottom half if the draw is wide open with zero seeded players into the semis. Humbert will next face German qualifier Matthias Bachinger.

Bachinger defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-4 6-3 on Thursday, while David Goffin defeated Benoit Paire, 6-2 6-3 and Andrey Rublev knocked off Matteo Berrettini 6-3 7-6(2).

Sergiy Stakhovsky was also a winner on Thursday—he defeated France’s Gregoire Barrere, 6-3 6-4.

The rest of the quarter-finals shape up as follows in Marseille.
