The more things change, the more they stay the same. 37-year-old Roger Federer booked his 13th final at Halle with a commanding 6-3 6-3 victory over Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France.

The Swiss, who made his first appearance at Halle as an 18-year-old 19 years ago, improved to 67-7 lifetime at the event. He will bid for his 10th title on Sunday when he faces Belgium’s David Goffin.

Goffin snapped a run of six consecutive losses in semi-finals earlier on Saturday by defeating Italy’s Matteo Berrettini 7-6(4) 6-3.

In his first career meeting with the four-time major doubles champion, Federer broke early and took the first three games of the match. The Swiss dropped just four points on serve in the opening set and made the break stand up.

Herbert saved three break points in the first game of the second set, but Federer would convert in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead with a punishing forehand from the ad side of the court that Herbert could not handle.

After a love hold Federer would break Herbert to close the match in 62 minutes as he punched another forehand winner past the approaching Frenchman.

In total, Federer dropped just five points on serve in nine service games and he converted three of his eight break points to improve to 31-4 on the season and 180-26 on grass.

The Swiss will bid for his 19th grass-court title on Sunday and 102nd overall. He owns a 7-1 lifetime edge over Goffin including 1-0 on grass.
