A squeaky clean performance from Angelique Kerber has ended Maria Sharapova’s Mallorca experience.

Kerber hit 18 winners against just five unforced errors and moved past the Russian 6-2 6-3 in 1:31 to improve to 5-4 lifetime against Sharapova and book a quarter-final slot in Mallorca.

The World No.6 saved all four break points she faced in the first and won 22 of 31 second-serve return points to notch her fourth straight win over Sharapova.

“I think a lack of match play really showed for me today,” said Sharapova. “She was the much more solid player.”

There were a lot of close games but Kerber found a way to come out on top in most of them to keep scoreboard pressure on Sharapova throughout. She broke in the opening game of the match and after saving three break points extended her lead to a double break soon after.

Last year’s Wimbledon champion likes her form at the moment, but still wants more matches to ensure she’s fully ready for a Wimbledon defense.

"I still think I need a few more matches but I'm in a good way, and the most important thing is to have a lot of good matches and to enjoy my stay here,” she said.

Kerber will face Caroline Garcia in the quarter-finals. The Nottingham champion stretched her winning streak to seven with a 6-2 6-7(3) 6-3 win over Spain’s Paula Badosa.

Anisimova Keeps Rolling

17-year-old Amanda Anisimova was one of the biggest stories of Roland Garros when she became the youngest Grand Slam semi-finalist since the 2007 Australian Open (Vaidisova) and the American teenager seems intent on pushing that narrative forward to Wimbledon. The World No.27 took down AlizΓ© Cornet 6-2 6-4 to book a quarter-final slot in her first career WTA-level event on grass.

Anisimova will face Belinda Bencic in the quarter-finals. Bencic moved through when American Shelby Rogers retired with an arm injury while trailing 3-1 in the third set on Thursdsay.

The quarter-finals at Mallorca shape up as follows:
