Ashleigh Barty will donate every penny she earns at next week’s Brisbane International to fundraising efforts for Australia’s bushfire crisis. The World No.1 could potentially earn $266,000 US. Barty has already donated $30,000 australian to the crisis, as of last November.

“We have to remember, this has been going on for a long time across our whole country and the first I saw of it was actually flying home from the Fed Cup final from Perth back to the east coast of Australia and we could see some of the smoke and some of the fires from the plane, so that really hit home with me,” Barty said, according to Courtney Walsh of the Australian.

“Obviously the worst of it is still out there at the moment. But to be able to do that and just donate that little bit and just kind of do our part to help has been incredible … and obviously now that it’s not just moved from the wildlife, obviously wildlife have lost lives and lost homes, but it’s also affected Australians with their lives and their homes.”

Barty is a part of a growing player movement to lend a hand to Australia during an extremely difficult time for the country.

On Sunday Maria Sharapova pledged to donate $25,000 and challenged Novak Djokovic to do the same. He quickly replied yes.

On January 15th Tennis Australia will hold the Rally for Relief at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. The organizers hope that it can raise around $1.5 million.

24 people have died and about 200 fires are currently burning across the country. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate, untold numbers of koalas and other animals have been killed and smoke from the fire has even reached the lower stratosphere and crossed 9,000 miles of ocean to pollute the skies of South American, according to the Washington Post.

Barty, Sharapova and Djokovic are not the only players who are sacrificing their hard-earned money for the cause. Scores of tennis players have pledged to donate, with many opting to give $100-$250 per ace. The ATP Cup itself is donating $100 per ace throughout the ten days of its competition across three cities in Australia.

Nick Kyrgios was among the first to call for charity mobilization—he hails from Canberra, one of the areas of Western Australia that has been hit the hardest.
