Caroline Garcia is riding out the coronavirus crisis in Rafael Nadal’s hometown of Manacor—piecing things together.

The 26-year-old Frenchwoman occupies her time playing puzzles rather than tennis these days.

After Indian Wells was canceled earlier this month, Garcia traveled to Manacor planning to train at the Rafa Nadal Academy. However, the coronavirus pandemic prompted Nadal and his team shutting down the Academy in an effort to protect full-time students and staff on site from the coronavirus.

Garcia, like people all over the world, stays inside trying to avoid the ravages of COVID-19 and adjust to the new abnormal normal.

“I try to accept things as they are, to the best of my ability, to put priorities one behind the other,” Garcia told L’Equipe.  “But sometimes you tell yourself it's unreal. In the morning and in the evening, I feel like I'm in a movie. I never thought I would live a period like this in my life.”

Though training is not an option, Garcia is grateful to be safe and healthy.

“It is a small town and there are far fewer cases and the situation is much calmer than in the big cities,” Garcia said. “We are safe and well.”
