Today on the Lucky Letcord Podcast Richard Pagliaro and Chris Oddo break down a number of topics related to the 2021 clay-court season and the Road to Roland-Garros.

We begin with a discussion of Stefanos Tsitsipas’ title in Monte-Carlo, and touch on Andrey Rublev’s performance as well, before moving into a more sweeping discussion of the current Race to Turin, which sees Tsitsipas and Rublev as No.1 and No.2, just ahead of Novak Djokovic. Also included in the Top 8? Interesting names like Jannik Sinner, Aslan Karatsev and Alexander Zverev.

Richard thinks that Sinner might even be able to make a push for ending the season in the Top 8. We also discuss which players are way back in the race but should likely come closer to the top of the pack by the end of the season, such as Nadal (currently 18) and Dominic Thiem (currently 47!).

15:08 This takes us into a broader discussion of Dominic Thiem’s psychological difficulties, and his very raw interview with Der Standard. We wonder what the level of Thiem’s suffering is at the moment? Is he at a breaking point as far as his season goes or will he be able to jump back on the horse when he hits Madrid?

And we close with a discussion of the current crop of young guns – think Alcaraz, Musetti, Sinner and Korda – and ask the question, are they already ready to challenge the Next Gen – think Tsitsipas, Shapovalov, Auger-Aliassime, Zverev, Rublev – and if so, what will that mean for the top of the men’s game in the future?

It’s a lot, we know. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening!
