(March 3, 2011) World no. 150 Michaella Krajicek ousted defending champion and third seed Alisa Kleybanova 6-3, 4-6, 3-6 in Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Dutch upsetter Krajicek took out the World No. 24 in 130 minutes when the match took a turn in the second set. She meets the World no. 169 Anne Kremer in the quarterfinals who she has lost to in previous match-ups.

Krajicek said, “I am happy with the way I played and I am going to enjoy my win and my run in this tournament as it is not easy to win matches and advance to the quarterfinals. When I take part in a tournament, I focus on one match at a time and so far in this tournament it has worked for me.”

Kleybanova followed the top seed’s falling footsteps of first seed Francesca Schiavone falling to Jelena Dokic in the first round, who plays eighth seed Bojana Jovanovski next.

The other seeds stayed intact for the quarterfinals, second seed Marion Bartoli beat Ekaterina Ivanova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, to meet with fifth seed Lucie Safarova, who took out former no. 1 Dinara Safina quickly 3-6, 6-4, 3-6.

Safina said, “I am disappointed that I lost today, but this loss will not hinder me in my quest to get back to my best form.”

Fourth seed Jarmila Groth will meet with sixth seed Ayumi Morita in the quarterfinals.
