Azarenka Pulls out of Miami

World No. 3 and two-time Sony Open champion Victoria Azarenka was forced to withdraw from the event on Friday morning.

Victoria Azarenka right ankle injury(March 22, 2013) -- Victoria Azarenka was forced to pull out from the Sony Open on Friday, leaving lucky loser Lauren Davis to take her place in the second round.

The World No. 3 and two-time Miami champion has been resting and rehabbing the right foot injury that forced her to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open prior to the quarterfinals.

Last week at Indian Wells, Azarenka told reporters that she picked up the injury a week before her Tennis Night in America exhibition at Madison Square Garden on March 4th.

Azarenka's absence means opportunities for other top seeds. Angelique Kerber, seeded sixth, is now the highest seed in what was Azarenka's quarter. Maria Sharapova, who was slated to face Azarenka in the semifinals, could also benefit from the news.
