(February 26th, 2012)  In an event that started with the biggest name in the draw, Serena Williams, withdrawing at the last minute, followed by the biggest seeds falling early, the Whirlpool Monterrey Open ended with one more surprise as 18-year-old Timea Babos of Hungary claimed her first WTA title over Romania's Alexandra Cadantu.

Never dropping serve the entire match, Babos herself was able to break Candantu one time in each set to earn a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Babos, who had only won one WTA main draw match ever, pulled off several upsets in the week including wins over Sorana Cirstea and Sara Errani en route to the final.

"I had some big wins this week, like Sara Errani who is a great player, and the toughest battle of the week for me," said Babos, "I'm so happy with how I played this week "I'm so glad to make it. This is a really new feeling. It feels amazing."
