Bartoli Wins, Americans Fall Out Of Osaka Draw

(October 10, 2011) On Monday at the Hinz Open, Marion Bartoli entered the draw as a wildcard and the second seed. Osaka semifinalist highlighted the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Melinda Czink of Hungary in 76 minutes.

The top-French player executed her return game with 69 total attempts at points and converting five of 14 opportunities to break. She hopes to count this win one step closer to the season-end finals.

Defending champion Tamerine Tanasugarn ousted eighth-seeded Christina McHale of the USA 6-3, 7-5 in a battle of a match that last 123 minutes. McHale had five aces and one double fault to the Thai’s zero aces and five double faults but the American was far less consistent on her serve winning only 44 of 92 total-service points.

McHale was not the only American player to fall, Japanese-native Misaki Doi outplayed Coco Vandewghe won their match 6-4, 6-4. Mathilde Johansson of France defeat Irina Falconi 6-3, 6-2.

Winning 54 percent of the total points, the World No. 84 improved her record over the last 12 months to 28 wins to 17 losses. The 34-year-old moves on to the second round hoping to make this tournament her fifth-WTA-tournament title.

One more wins for the seeds, No. 7 Chanelle Scheepers defeated Alla Kudryavtseva 6-2, 6-2.
