The Spaniard faced off against German veteran Benjamin Becker in the Topshelf Open final on Saturday.

Becker was in search of his second title at the event having won before in 2009. For his part, Bautista Agut battled all week to reach the final having knocked out defending champion Nicolas Mahut of France earlier.

Becker took control early by gaining a 4-1 lead in the opening set. Soon, the German struck his second ace to seal the set 6-2.

Bautista Agut stayed level with Becker in the second set and eventually forced a tiebreak. Taking hold of a mini-break lead, Bautista Agut closed out the set and evened the match.

With momentum on his side, Bautista Agut earned a break lead in the final set. He served out the set and won the title by forcing a final error from Becker on match point.

Bautista Agut celebrated the 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 victory that gave him his first ever ATP title.

Now at a projected career high ranking of No. 21 in the world, Bautista Agut continues his impressive 2014 season that includes reaching his first ever ATP Masters 1000 semi back in Madrid.
