(October 10, 2011) Taking a three-spot leap, Tomas Berdych rose to World No. 7 and place away from his career high at No. 6 that he earned last year around the same time. The 500 points he gained in by winning the China Open in Beijing last week and pushed last weeks’s top players down a ranking .

He will be competing with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, whose ranking he took with his win, Mardy Fish, Gael Monfils, and Nicolas Almagro for a spot in the ATP World Tour finals to take his chance against Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray, who qualified earlier this year. David Ferrer and Robin Soderling are solidly at five and six in the World.

The Czech winner faced Marin Cilic in the China Open final allowing him to jump to No. 22 and is closer to being back in the top 10 again since December 20101.

Continuing to rise since his recent return, Juan Carlos Ferrero rose a surprising 15 spots to No. 69 and the man-with-the-fastest-serve Ivo Karlovic ascended 15 places to No. 61.

As for the ladies, it has been reported that Caroline Wozniacki’s top spot is being threatened by Maria Sharapova and are separated 1,725 points. However Sharapova’s injury and Wozniacki’s dismals results are not consistent.

Victoria Azarenka
rose to No. 3, a career high, due to the falls of Vera Zvonareva, and Petra Kvitova. Zvonareva has solidly been at No. 2 this year but has experienced a dissension since Wimbledon.

After winning in Beijing to add to the two titles she won over the last 12 months, Agnieszka Radwanska rose to the top 10 at the World No. 8 for the first time. Meanwhile, Australian Open chamion Kim Clijsters, who has not been competing due to injury, fell to No. 10 and will keep falling unless she returns.
