Berlocq, who was 0-19 versus the ATP’s top 10 before his run to the title at Oeiras earlier this season (defeated Milos Raonic and Tomas Berdych), has now won his last three against such players.

The Argentine broke Ferrer’s serve five times on seven opportunities to level his career head-to-head against the world No. 7 to 1-1. Ferrer, a two-time Bastad champion, drops to 33-13 on the season with one title.

Berlocq will face Joao Sousa in Saturday’s semifinals. Sousa took down up-and-coming Serb Dusan Lajovic, 6-4, 6-4.

In the lower half of the draw last year’s runner-up Fernando Verdasco slid past fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, 7-5, 6-3, while Pablo Cuevas took out Argentine qualifier Renzo Olivo, 6-2, 6-4.
