Christiane Amanpour opened the month making her debut as host of ABC's Sunday morning "This Week" and will close the month hosting the US Open's opening-night ceremony on Monday, August 30th.

Amanpour, the former long-time CNN international correspondent, will be joined by Hall of Famer Martina Navratilova, who is a Tennis Channel analyst, and James Blake as well as musician Gloria Estefan, who will perform on opening night, according to a publish reported in the New York Post.
Amanpour has lived in New York City for several years.

Wheel chair tennis champion Esther Vergeer, who owns an unbeaten streak that spans seven years, and Dori Samadzai-Bonner, who grew up in Afghanistan, when girls were banned from sports but moved to the U.S. and fell in love with tennis, will he honored on opening night.
