Cilic Continues Roll
(February 8, 2010) Marin Cilic continued his winning ways in his home country.
The 10th-ranked Croatian successfully defended his Zagreb title, defeating Michael Berrer, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3 to claim his fifth career title. Cilic raised his record to 15-1 on the season.
Cilic has won two of the three events he's entered this season. He opened the year defending his Chennai title then reached his first career major semifinal before bowing to Andy Murray in the Australian Open semifinals. That performance propelled Cilic into the top 10 for the first time.
Cilic scored the lone break of the opening set and made it stand up. The 29-year-old Berrer battled back to win the second-set tie break and level the match.
The top-seeded Cilic was the aggressor in the final set to close out the two hour, 38-minute match.
