(December 8, 2011) After missing most of the season because of various injuries, Kim Clijsters defeated World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 7-6 (5) in an exhibition in Belgium Thursday.
Clijsters hasn’t played a WTA Tour match since August, when she had to withdraw because of an abdominal injury in her first match at the Rogers Cup.
In April, she sustained shoulder, wrist and ankle injuries that made it difficult for her to compete. Earlier in the year, she won the Australian Open, reached the final Sydney and Paris and the quarterfinal in Miami.
After the match, Clijsters said she felt fit and ready to defend her title.
“So far, and today, everything felt really great,” Clijsters told the crowd. “Now I am good to get on the plane and fly to Australia.”
According to the Associated Press, the Belgiam will play in the Brisbane International.
