The 2014 season started with a wave of injuries and player withdrawals. That trend continues led by Juan Martin Del Potro.

Current World No. 4 Del Potro made a return trip to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to seek treatment for pain in his left wrist. Del Potro first experienced the issue during his opening round match at Melbourne against Rhyne Williams. Del Potro eventually exited the first Grand Slam event of the year after a second round loss to Roberto Bautista Agut.

The Argentine's management team said in a statement that Del Potro was planning to return to the Mayo Clinic later this season, but that the increasing pain prompted him to get relief sooner. Del Potro previously received injections in his left wrist at last year's US Open. The condition first started back in the summer of 2012. He skipped most of the 2010 season due to ongoing problems with his right wrist.

Del Potro's next scheduled event is the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam where he is defending champion.

Also on the ATP side, France's Benoit Paire withdrew from mulitple upcoming events as he deals with a knee issue he first picked up in Melbourne.

Lisicki, Kuznetsova Withdraw from Pattaya City

Injuries also impacted the WTA as the tour resumed its schedule at the PTT Pattaya Open in Thailand.

Both top seeds No. 1 Sabine Lisicki and No. 2 Svetlana Kuznetsova were each forced to withdraw from the event after posting opening round wins.

Lisicki, who struggled in her opening round against Donna Vekic, withdrew with a shoulder injury before her next match against Andrea Hlavackova.

Kuznetsova, who earned her 500th career win in the first round, suffered a left hip injury. That forced her to withdraw prior to her next meeting against Germany's Julia Goerges.
