Juan Martin del Potro won’t be launching his comeback in Brisbane.

Del Potro has pulled out of next week’s Brisbane International as he continues recovery from a left wrist injury. The 2009 U.S. Open champion joins reigning U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic in withdrawing from Brisbane. Cilic pulled out on Tuesday with a right shoulder injury.

The 26-year-old Del Potro aims to return at the Sydney International, which starts on January 12. Del Potro opened the 2014 season beating Bernard Tomic in the Sydney final to capture his 18th career title. A wrist injury limited the Argentine to just 10 matches in 2014. Del Potro underwent wrist surgery on March 24.

“It was hard to stay away from the tour for almost a year, not willing to watch tennis on TV but eager to be right there playing,” del Potro wrote in a post on his Facebook page. “Thanks to the support I get from you, from my family, my friends, my team and thanks to the will to get back on track, I don't give up the fight and I work every day to overcome every stone on the way so that I can play without any pain and return to enjoy the competition. I miss feeling the interaction with you on a tennis court…I’ll see you soon.”
