This year's top seed and the event's defending champion are set to collide in the final of the Apia International in Sydney.

Juan Martin Del Potro posted a self-described best performance of the week against Russia's Dmitry Tursunov in the semifinals. Though Del Potro struggled in earlier matches, the world No. 5 put together a comprehensive win by striking nine aces and winning 86 percent of his service points to complete the 6-4, 6-2 win.

"I think I played my best match of the week," Del Potro said to ATP.com. "I played great with my forehands and serves. I didn't make easy errors and I played solid on the baseline. I think I did everything okay, and I'm glad with my level of today. I'm looking forward for the final of tomorrow."

Del Potro will now play for his 18th career ATP title.

Tomic Gets Past Stakhovsky in Three-Set Semi

Bernard Tomic continues to thrive in his home country as he will get a chance to defend his title from last year. But it took Tomic a considerable effort to get past qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky in their semifinal.

After dropping the first set in a tiebreak, Tomic managed to save seven of eight break points against him.

Over two hours later, Tomic closed out the 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-3 win.

"The way I played here, I'm very happy," Tomic said. "Tomorrow is going to be a difficult match. I've got to prepare as best as I can. Last time I played he beat me pretty comfortably, 6-3, 6-3. I felt like I had chances in that match. I have to go for my shots and play the way I played in my first round and the quarters to win."

Del Potro leads the head-to-head 1-0, having beaten Tomic in their only previous encounter last year in Washington, D.C.
