After leaving Monte Carlo with a heavily taped right wrist, Novak Djokovic says that he should be able to compete at upcoming clay court events this season.

Statisfaction: Rafael Nadal's Barcelona Domination

Djokovic made the announcement on his official website on Tuesday after spending the last several days consulting with doctors.

“Fortunately, the situation with the injury is better than it first seemed. Doctors assured me that I will be ready for Madrid, then Rome and Roland Garros, just as it has been planned. However, I need to continue with the recovery process and full medical treatments. It means I will have to take a short break in order to recover as soon as possible,” Djokovic said.

The right wrist issue became a problem for Djokovic during his quarterfinal win in Monte Carlo against Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Djokovic appeared to be in severe pain in his semifinal against Roger Federer that he lost to the eventual finalist.

Djokovic plans to rest for several days before returning to tennis. His next scheduled events are the ATP 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome leading up to the French Open.
