World No. 2 and defending Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters champion Novak Djokovic started his clay-court season with a bang on Tuesday, running roughshod over Spaniard Albert Montanes, 6-1, 6-0 in a crisp 45 minutes.

Djokovic fell behind 0-40 at 1-1 in the first set but quickly rebounded to thwart the 33-year-old in every possible way. Djokovic struck 27 winners to only one for Montanes in winning his eleventh consecutive match, and his 21st straight at the Masters 1000 level.

The biggest question during the match was not about Djokovic's play but rather why did he need to wear the black kineseo tape on his right wrist, but the Serb deflected questions about the apparent injury in his press conference:

Djokovic showed no ill effects of any injury during his romp over Montanes, but he should face a more stern test on Thursday in his third-round match where he will face either Gael Monfils or Pablo Carreno Busta.

The 26-year-old has been to the Monte-Carlo final in each of the last two seasons and owns a 21-6 career record in the Principality.
