Sara Errani hitting a forehand(May 2, 2012) Sara Errani is looking more and more like the queen of clay every day.

The world No. 27 dropped her first set on clay since February--after fifteen in a row--today against Budapest native and resident Melinda Czink, then recovered to close out a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 victory to book a spot in the quarterfinals.

"She started to play better in the second set and I got nervous," said Errani afterwards. Already at a career-high ranking, Errani is making a strong push to reach the top 20 this spring.

She's won two titles (Acapulco, d. Pennetta and Barcelona, d. Cibulkova) and is currently on a 12-match clay winning streak that dates all the way back to her semifinal loss in early February in the Monterrey semifinals.

Errani will play fellow Italian
Alberta Brianti in the quarterfinals. The 32-year-old world No. 104 came back to defeat Lesia Tsurenko of the Ukraine in three sets today, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

Errani defeated Brianti in straight-sets on clay in Barcelona in the pair's only previous meeting last year.

Other seeds to advance today were fifth-seeded Marina Erakovic, who went through after  Akgul Amanmuradova retired after being bageled in the first set due to an elbow injury, and sixth-seeded Petra Martic, who avenged a previous 2012 loss to Su-Wei Hsieh with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Second-seeded
Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan was the lone upset victim today. The world No. 38 lost to Russian Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-3.
