(January 24, 2013) -- Victoria Azarenka's medical timeout at 5-4 of the second set of her 6-1, 6-4 victory over Sloane Stephens on Thursday was heavily criticized by the tennis cognoscenti after the fact.
Stephens herself, a picture of poise throughout her semifinal run, took the high road, saying "It's happened before. Last match, match before, I've had people going for medical breaks, going to the bathroom. Didn't affect me. Just another something else that happens."
But many pundits, former players and fed-up fans were miffed that Azarenka could be allowed to walk off court for ten minutes just when Stephens had stolen momentum in the match and was about to serve to level the second set.
