Roger Federer is enjoying being back on clay this week at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. But he won't let tennis stop him from being near his wife's side for her impending birth.

Federer Scorches Stepanek in Second Round

Back in Monte Carlo for the first time since 2011, Federer recorded a straightforward 6-1, 6-2 win over Radek Stepanek in the second round. When asked later about his upcoming schedule, Federer stressed the importance of being available for his wife Mirka who is due to give birth to their third child.

"So we're just waiting. It's a priority for me trying to be there, trying to support my wife," Federer said on Wednesday. "I've played enough tennis matches. Missing a tournament or missing a match wouldn't change anything for me."

The Federers announced on December 24th that they were expecting their third child although an exact due date is not known.

Currently scheduled to compete next in Madrid and Rome before this year's French Open, Federer would not commit to anything specific should his wife need him. That includes the French Open that he won back in 2009.

"Yeah, let's talk about it when it would happen. At the moment we hope it's not going to be that way," Federer said. "If it is, that's what it is, you know."

Federer, who has played every Grand Slam since 2000, will next face Lukas Rosol in the third round.
