(July 12, 2011)  According the Live Tennis Guide's Alan Kyle, Serena Williams will be out for the rest of the World Team Tennis season because of a foot injury.

She was set to play four matches this season for Washington Kastles. She was not able to attend the match against New York Buzz because of the injury last Friday. She was scheduled to play on against Philadelphia, the Kansas City Explorers and New York. Check the WTT schedule for the match events.

World No. 75 Williams played for her World Team Tennis team twice last week,lead by coach Murphy Jensen. She also played in Washington, D.C.against the Boston Lobsters for First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia, who are tennis fans.


Williams was scheduled to return for the Bank of the West Classic, the Rogers Cup, and the Western and Southern Open. There have been no reports on her status at those tournaments or details about the foot injury.

While World No. 2 Kim Clijsters, the two-time defending U.S. Open champion is said to be be coming back for the Mercury Insurance Open beginning the first week of August and the Rogers Cup, after missing Wimbledon because of an ankle injury, could be on her way back.
