Forget Paris: Serena Pulls Out Of Paris Indoors

(February 6, 2010) Australian Open champion Serena Williams won't be making the trip to Paris.

The World No. 1 has withdrawn from next week's Paris Indoor Open citing a leg injury, tournament organizers announced today.

Playing with her thigh and calf wrapped with adhesive tape, Williams won 13 matches in 14 days — seven singles matches and six doubles matches — in successfully defending her Australian Open singles and doubles titles. The 12-time Grand Slam champion was the 1999 and 2003 Paris Indoors champion.

Reigning Paris champion Amelie Mauresmo, who retired and will not defend her title, was in Lievin, France today as a spectator at the USA vs. France Fed Cup World Group first round tie.

In Williams' absence, Elena Dementieva is the now the top player in the tournament.
