Simona Halep and Sam Stosur both secured straight set victories in Saturday's semifinals to book their spots into the Kremlin Cup finals in Moscow.
For both women, it is a chance to end their seasons on a high note. Stosur is seeking her second straight title in a row having won Osaka last week. Halep, enjoying a breakout 2013, will go for her fifth title of the year.
Stosur took on her current doubles partner No. 8 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova who was into her first semifinal of the year. Though locked at 3-all in their career head to head, it was Kuznetsova hoping to reverse a recent losing streak against Stosur.
But Kuznetsova couldn't get things going in the opening set as the Australian easily took it 6-2. The one-sided nature of the match continued as Stosur jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set.
Kuznetsova mounted a comeback to pull to within 4-5. But trying to serve to stay in the match, Kuznetsova couldn't manage it. Stosur soon celebrated the 6-2, 6-4 win that sent her into her third final of the year.
The Australian previously picked up titles this year in Carlsbad and Osaka.
Halep Rolls Against Pavlyuchenkova in Semis
As the last remaining Russian woman in the draw, it was up to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to give the fans a local player to root for.
But No. 5 seed Simona Halep proved she was on a mission to reach yet another final. The Romanian broke Pavlyuchenkova in six of nine of the Russian's service games.
Halep herself saved three of four break points against her as Pavlyuchenkova could not make a dent in Halep's service games.
A final double fault from Pavlyuchenkova while down match point sealed the convincing 6-2, 6-1 win for Halep in just 75 minutes.
Stosur leads the head to head against Halep 3-1 though the Romanian won their last meeting at Cincinnati this summer.
