Rafael Nadal Acapulco (March 3rd, 2013) -- The finals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel were expected to be a tight tussle that would go down to the last shot. Instead, it was an emphatic coronation for the man known as the "king of clay".

Rafael Nadal put in a dominating and comprehensive performance against fellow countryman and three-time defending champion David Ferrer. From his first backhand winner in the opening point, Nadal continued a barrage of perfect shots and stifling defense.

Ferrer could not find a solution to Nadal's winning combination as Nadal wrapped up the first set 6-0 in just 26 minutes.

Nothing changed in the second set as Nadal had an answer for everything Ferrer threw at him, including a deft skyhook overhead followed up by a perfect lob winner at 3-1.

Ferrer only held serve twice during the entire match but it did little to stop Nadal himself serving out the match to love with a final backhand down the line winner to seal the 6-0, 6-2 victory.

"I did not do anything wrong today, I had a great match, almost perfect," Nadal told AP "I would have never imagined playing at the level that I played today, I'm leaving happy and surprised."

Content with this performance, Nadal also announced that he feels his participation at next week's event at Indian Wells is very likely.

"Indian Wells is one of my favorite tournaments and I want to keep competing because the knee is holding up and my heart says that I can do it, and compete is what I want to do now."

In the women's final, Sara Errani repeated as champion with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.

Facing Russia's Olga Puchkova, Niculescu opened up a 6-2, 2-0 lead before the Russian stormed back to take the second set.

Niculescu recovered and went on to claim the match and her first title 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
