Querrey Wins Davis Cup Opener vs. Brazil

Playing in his first ever Davis Cup match on home soil, America's Sam Querrey notched a quick straight sets win over Thomaz Bellucci in Jacksonville, Florida.

Sam Querrey (February 1st, 2013) -- American Sam Querrey made the most of his first ever Davis Cup match played on home soil in Jacksonville, Florida as he earned a convincing straight sets win over Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci.

In the first singles rubber of the event, Querrey took command of the match early thanks to 10 winners from his racquet in the opening set. Bellucci didn't help his cause by hitting 11 unforced errors, including three from his forehand to give Querrey the first set 6-3.

Querrey went on to break Bellucci in the opening games of the second and third sets to continue his control of the match. Winning a healthy 96% of first serve points throughout the afternoon, Querrey went on to win in comfortable fashion 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Querrey's win gives the U.S. team a 1-0 lead heading into the second singles rubber of the afternoon featuring U.S. No.1 John Isner versus Thiago Alves.
