And then there were none.

Due to the weekend's rain delays, No. 9 seed John Isner found himself in the second week of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.

Yet his third round loss to Spain's Feliciano Lopez on Monday spelled the end of the American's run and a longstanding presence of players from the USA in the second week.

Lopez, who entered Wimbledon having defended his title at Eastbourne, found himself engaged in multiple tiebreaks with the big serving American. Both men split the first two sets in tiebreaks before Lopez won the third set in yet another breaker to take the lead.

After breaking Isner for the first time all day to take a 6-5 lead in the fourth set, Lopez celebrated by leaping in the air as if he had won the match. He would do so in the next game as his serve a final ace thus closing out the 6-7(8), 7-6(6), 7-6(3), 7-5 victory.

With Isner's loss, it means no American men or women are left in the singles draws. The last time that happened was during 1911 when the tournament still had a "challenge round" format.

Nishikori, Wawrinka Advance During Rain-Filled Monday

Despite rain continuing to play havoc with scheduling, several players did advance into the fourth round.

No. 5 seed Stan Wawrinka had little trouble dispatching an ailing Denis Istomin. The Australian Open champion advanced 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. Wawrinka will next play Lopez.

Kei Nishikori, whose match versus Italy's Simone Bolleli was suspended during a fifth set, returned to action as well. The No. 10 seed Nishikori eventually completed the match by winning 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-4.

Marin Cilic of Croatia became the first man into the last eight at Wimbledon. Cilic reached his first ever Wimbledon quarterfinal with a 7-6(8), 6-4, 6-4 win over France's Jeremy Chardy.
