A marquee final is set at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo with Ana Ivanovic facing off against Caroline Wozniacki.

Ivanovic booked her place after defeating top seed Angelique Kerber in a spirited semifinal featuring incredible gets and shotmaking from both women.  Kerber, despite holding an early 5-3 lead, couldn't close out the opening set.

Reeling off 10 of the last 13 games, Ivanovic would race past Kerber and win 7-5, 6-3 to reach her fifth final this year and post her 51st victory this season.

Waiting for Ivanovic will be Caroline Wozniacki who continues enjoy a summer resurgence including reaching the US Open final a few weeks ago.

Wozniacki's earlier semifinal against Spain's Garbine Muguruza proved a tough battle.

Even when Wozniacki claimed the opening set 6-4, the match outcome wasn't certain. Muguruza leveled the match by taking the second set. Yet Wozniacki's experience prevailed as she wrapped up the 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win.

"She was playing really, really well and very aggressively, but I just kept fighting and staying in there, and I think at the end I had just a little bit more energy than she did," Wozniacki said later to WTA.com.

The Tokyo final outcome could have implications for the upcoming year-end event in Singapore.

Both Ivanovic and Wozniacki are chasing points needed to qualify as Ivanovic sits in eighth place and Wozniacki in ninth place on the "Road to Singapore" leaderboard. Ivanovic leads the overall head to head 4 to 2.
